The Villanova Wildcats men’s basketball team is riding high after an obliteration of Butler University recently, which pushes their win streak to six games and counting.

With a six-game winning streak, the success is not just personal – as the Wildcats have climbed higher in the recent polls and are ranked at 11th, just a shade outside of the Top 10.
The Wildcats are getting hot just at the right time, as the season has now reached beyond the halfway mark. Led by star guard Collin Gillespie, Villanova has stampeded their way to the top of the Big East standings.
Their rise is evident in one of their latest matchups against Creighton University, a team that beat the Wildcats by 20 points earlier this season. The Wildcats avenged that loss in dominating fashion, by destroying Creighton by 34, and only allowing the team to score 41 points in total.
In the most recent win over the Butler Bulldogs, winning by 40 points, it is showing that the Wildcats are at the top of the class in the Big East, and will look to extend their lead even further in the conference this week, with a tough matchup against the Marquette Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles are on a win streak themselves at four and counting, with one of the victories being a huge 32-point blowout of top-25 Big East opponent Providence – a team that is second behind Villanova in the conference, which shows the Golden Eagles are more than a formidable opponent.
However, with such dominating performances as of late, Villanova seems to be on the verge of running away with the conference at this point. Although the Big East is always a wide-open conference full of upsets, it seems that Villanova is the team to beat at the moment, and should be on the verge of running away with the conference title.
Marquette this Wednesday will prove a tough challenge for Villanova possibly, but with so much momentum going into this clash, do not expect Villanova to falter as they look to strengthen their resume and rise into the nation’s top 10, at just the perfect time.
