Heisman Ladder Week 7 recap | News Article by handicapper911.com

1-Michael Penix Jr. QB Washington
The fantastic year continues for the Huskies and for Michael Penix Jr. The Huskies had their biggest challenge of the season with Oregon visiting Seattle, and Penix delivered a Heisman moment with a late touchdown to take the lead.

Throwing for 302 yards and four touchdowns, he was the best player on the field again. They still have a few challenging games left, but at this moment he is going to have to fail to give this up.

2-JJ McCarthy, QB, Michigan
We have some serious movement this week in the Heisman Ladder. He may not have the massive stats that the other candidates do, but he is completing 80% of his passes for 1,512 yards and 14 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions.

His Wolverines have been so dominant this year that he hasn’t needed to take over games or provide any late-game heroics. He has the opportunity to add some serious stats against a weak Purdue team before heading into their games against Penn State and Ohio State. Those two games will determine his chances.

3-Jodan Travis, QB, Florida State
Jordan Travis and Florida State have been steady, but not dominant this season. He is going to have to really set the world on fire to have stats that look like a Heisman Trophy winner, but he has the team and the record to get it done.

He is going to need a few big moments in the coming weeks, but he is not out of it.

4-Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oklahoma
A week off actually put Gabriel into the conversation. He didn’t do anything last week, but everyone is still relishing in his fantastic game against Texas the week before. He is electric and has been since his days at UCF.

They don’t have another ranked team on the schedule so he has chances to put up major numbers.

5-Caleb Williams, QB, USC
A lot of people have written off Caleb Williams after he put up an absolute dud of a game against Notre Dame. He was bad, but they have enough Prime Time TV games coming up and he is the highlight machine, so he is not out of consideration for this award.

Can they beat anyone who is good though? They may wind up with 4 losses.

Others in the Hunt: Bo Nix, QB, Oregon; Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas; Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina; Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
